Description and uses:

Anh. CoCl2 hydrates easily to wine red CoCl2.6H2O (hexahydrate).

In the anhydrous form it finds mainly use in organic chemistry and is a precursor to cobaltocene (bis(cyclopentadienyl)cobalt(II)).
